The difference between Balayage & Ombre

We've had a lot of questions and confusion about these two hot trends in hair colour. Here's the lowdown:

Balayage: Is a Technique

Balayage is a French word meaning to 'sweep' or to 'paint'. The technique is freehand painting of highlights, rather than using the traditional foils or cap techniques.  This gives stylist more freedom of colour placement, depending on the look you are trying to achieve. The end result is more natural and sunkissed, with less upkeep as there isn't a solid regrowth line.

Ombre: Is a Style

Ombre in French means shadow or shade. It the style of hair colour fading from darker roots to lighter ends. It is low maintenance, with clients being able to go several months without a touch up. It can be achieved through foils, freehand balayage or a mixture of both techniques.

We offer both of these hot colour trends/techniques at Genesis. Call us today to make an appointment!
